English (General American) pronunciation dictionary Source: open-dict-data/ipa-dict, data/en_US.txt https://github.com/open-dict-data/ipa-dict Pinned revision: 43c3570eb3553bdd19fccd2bd0091534889af023 Retrieved: 2026-10-16 (Asia/Tokyo) The distributed en_US.txt is an unmodified copy of that revision. The UI lowercases lookup keys, combines alternative readings within a row, removes duplicate readings, and changes enclosing slashes to square brackets. The default learner-style display additionally applies the documented rules in notation.js: stressed i -> iː; full u -> uː (weak prevocalic u stays short); ɑ -> ɑː; ɔ -> ɔː; strong ɝ -> əːr, weak ɝ -> ər; ɚ -> ər; ɜ -> əː; ɫ -> l; ɹ -> r; ɛ -> e; ɪr/er/ʊr -> ɪər/eər/ʊər. Explicit length is preserved, syllable dots and affricate ties are omitted, and stress marks on monosyllabic readings are omitted. Unstressed i, lax vowels and diphthongs do not receive inferred length. The original notation can be selected at any time. This is a display convention, not a narrow phonetic transcription or a word-for-word reproduction of a proprietary dictionary. The unchanged source dictionary remains authoritative for which pronunciations are offered.
